ABSTRACT

Building project delivery is a high-risk task that most often results in loss of life and property. As a result of this surge in the accident or loss in the construction site, insurance becomes imperative to restore confidence on the people working in the construction site as they will regain nearly what they lost during project delivery or duly compensated for the loss of life. This research work, therefore, looks at the impact of the National Insurance Act 2003 in building project delivery.

The research made an attempt to appraise the Insurance Act 2003 practice in building construction, the role it plays, and its impact on building project delivery. Data were collected for this research through questionnaire and oral interview, analysis of data, and data interpretation were presented in the form of percentage and frequency table.

It was discovered that the Insurance Act 2003 need amendment in order to contain all looses on the construction site and more also, it was due to the lack of proper awareness campaign and weakness of law enforcement agent on an insurance policy that causes poor insurance practice in a building project. It was concluded that insurance practice was overlooked by small project contractors. And also, clients are scared of taking insurance policies because of fear or lack of trust that the insurance company may not meet up with the claims when damage occurs.

This implies that the law enforcement agencies should checklist the capacity of most insurance companies. I recommended that there should be proper and adequate awareness of the public such as; contractors and clients the need to engage with insurance practice when handling a construction project.
