FLOOD MANAGEMENT AND WATER RESOURCES CONSERVATION is a well-researched topic, it can be used as a guide or framework for your Academic Research
Recently, flood disasters occur frequently in Indonesia even though in other countries. One of the causes of the flood occurrence supposed by climate change and definitely by increasing runoff due to deforestation and urbanization. For example, almost every five years occur a big flood in Jakarta which the last two were in the first week of February 2007 and 2002. Those floods covered almost two-thirds of the area of Jakarta with the depth of flood to reach the dangerous status and have caused big direct losses also indirect losses.
Many kinds of effort against flood disasters had been determined but there is no one method that gives us a comprehensive solution due to each method has each advantage and disadvantage. Those two groups are curative and preventive methods which usually curative methods applicable for short time planning and the preventive method useful for long term planning.
The aim of all methods is ‘free of flood disaster’ and the engineers should take into account the physical and economic condition, social and cultural situation, and environmental aspect. Base on this reason, the prevention method is better than the curative method and will provide a big advantage especially for long term planning.
